"For the Game, for
the world"

Since 1993, Qatar has hosted some 440 international sporting events across a wide range of disciplines and age groups, including the 2006 Asian Games, the 2015 Men’s Handball Championship, the 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships, the 48th World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2018, the International Handball Federation Men’s Super Globe, the 2019 ANOC World Beach Games, the FIFA Club World Cup and the 2019 World Athletics Championships. The country’s sports infrastructure is among the best in the world. This includes the facilities of the “Aspire Zone Foundation” and the FIFA-accredited Aspetar Qatar Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, the first specialized sports hospital in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

Proud Host of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

Qatar is one of the fastest growing sports economies in the world. In the wake of the World Cup, further investments of around USD 200 billion have been made to provide the international sporting event with an appropriate stage and first-class access for its players and guests. The games will be broadcasted to the world by the Doha-based BeIN Media Group, a media network that is a global leader in sports broadcasting. Additionally, the Al Jazeera channel gives Qatar a voice that reaches listeners in over 100 countries throughout the world.

Women's Sports Promoted

In 2000, the Qatar Women’s Sport Committee (QWSC) was established to promote women’s athletics in Qatar in a variety of sports. In doing so, the QWSC is supported by a group of expert advisors who develop four-year strategic plans for Qatar and the region. One result of the targeted sports promotion is the participation of a team of female athletes in the 2012 London Olympics.
